Why most beginners give up... and how you won’t.
You probably tried to learn from YouTube, right? Or with one of those interactive guitar apps that never work. Maybe you practiced on your own, or had a few private lessons here and there, but felt you were not getting any better.
Guess what? 90% of beginners quit within the first month because they didn't get proper support from the start. Here's what you need to do:
Why most guitar courses don’t work, and what we do differently!
Most Online Courses or Private Lessons.
The R.E.A.L® method at Music&Co.
How does the R.E.A.L.® Method work?
1. Learn what's relevant to you.
You don’t learn random songs you don't like or practice outdated exercises. We start with music you actually love, so every lesson feels meaningful, and every note motivates you to keep going. It's all about what you like to play everyday!
2. Learn how to express yourself.
Music is more than muscle memory. For us, playing it's about understanding your unique way of learning, and how we can help you express who you are. We help you explore your own style and stay consistent through structured guidance, practical exercises, and the kind of teaching that meets you where you are.
3. Learn with simple activities.
No complex theory. No confusing instructions. Music shouldn't be hard! We break things down into simple, clear steps, making it easy to learn, even if you’ve never picked up a guitar before, and we keep you motivated with constant updates in between lessons.
4. Learn in a supportive group.
It's been proven time and time again: learning in a group makes everything better. You’re surrounded by others on the same journey, sharing progress, pushing each other forward, and celebrating every small win. This is how we help you improve for REAL!
What you get?
  • Customised music program.
  • Weekly group lessons.

Playing an instrument is not as easy as people might think, it helps to have a guide. I was surprised how structured but friendly the process was. It’s not just about playing, it’s a real community of passionate musicians.

Gonçalo is pretty charismatic, I can feel the energy he transmits when he talks about guitar. It’s the perfect mix of laid-back culture and structured learning, personalized to what makes you happy to play.

The most surprising thing? How far five minutes a day can take you. It’s fun to see how quickly you can evolve when you stick to it… and Gonçalo really knows how to drive that point home about consistency.

Gonçalo
I've always loved two things: music and helping others improve themselves. I started playing guitar at 19, during a difficult time in my life. Soon, music became a space where I could just be myself. What started as a passion turned into a purpose: to share the transformational power of music with as many people as possible.
When I moved to Zurich 12 years ago, I brought a dream with me: to create the kind of school I wish I had, where people learn together, feel encouraged, and really enjoy the process.
That’s how Music&Co. was born. 400+ students later, I still believe music can change everything, especially when we don't do it by ourselves.

Got questions?
We’ve taught hundreds of beginners... we’ve heard them all.
Where is the school located?
We’re at Wattstrasse 3, 8050 Zürich, right next to the Oerlikon train station. Easy to reach by tram, train, or bus.
I’ve tried learning before. What makes this different?
We get it. But did you know that most beginners quit because they feel unsupported? This is why we build the school Music & Co. To guide you step-by-step, help you track your progress, and make sure you never feel like you’re doing it alone. The R.E.A.L.® Method was designed to keep you engaged and motivated, with the support you need every step of the way. It’s the simplest, most effective way to learn how to play the guitar.
What are your opening hours?
We are very flexible. We run lessons Monday to Saturday, with options in the morning, afternoon, and evening, so whether you’re working full time, freelancing, or parenting, there’s a time that fits your schedule.
Who teaches the lessons?
Your free lesson is led by Gonçalo, a certified teacher with over 20 years of experience and creator of the R.E.A.L® Method. And this is what makes all the difference: Music & Co. isn’t run by passionate musicians who teach on the side, it’s built by real, professional educators. All our lessons are taught by experienced instructors, fully trained in our R.E.A.L.® Method. You’ll either work directly with Gonçalo or with one of our trusted team members, each bringing the same playful, structured, and supportive approach. You can even choose who you’d like to learn with, just get to know our teachers and pick the one that feels right for you.
I’ve never played before. Is that a problem?
Not at all. In fact, most of our students start with zero experience. Our method is designed to help absolute beginners feel confident from day one.
Do I have to learn music theory?
Not at all, unless you really want to. We teach the practical parts of theory only when they help you play better. No heavy jargon, just clear, simple steps that make sense to you.
Do I have to learn how to read music?
Not at all. You don’t need to read traditional sheet music to start playing guitar. But because we truly love music, we’ll help you understand tabs and the basics, so you can expand your knowledge and experience the full beauty of what you’re playing. It’s always about helping you learn the way you most like, not making it complicated.
What if I don’t have a guitar yet?
No problem, we can lend you one for your trial lesson and help you find the right one if you decide to continue. You don’t need to bring anything but yourself.
What styles of music do you teach?
We focus on the music you love. Whether that’s pop, metal, rock, folk, indie, or acoustic classics, we’ll help you learn the songs that move you, not the ones from dusty textbooks. The experience makes sense only if you are passionate about what you are playing.
